This chutney owes its rich and subtle flavours to fruit and vegetables ripened in the Swazi sun. The products are hand prepared by the womans group Eswatini, which employs some 30 women. Buying this chutney helps the woman and the many small-scale farmers who supply them, pay medical and school bills and to save for a pension.

Eswatini is a project based in Manzini, Swaziland, set up to provide direct & indirect employment to local farmers and other workers. The company is reliant mainly on women - 90% of the staff are women and 45% of these are single mothers with 96% the sole income provider for the household. Eswatini care for their employees and their 150 children. Eswatini is owned by the Manzini Youth Centre, a community based organisation which supports more than 2000 street children & young people and operates youth projects.

Swaziland is a tiny independent country sandwiched between South Africa and Mozambique. With few natural resources most of the population are subsistence farmers living in poverty - with average incomes little more than 1USD a day. Buying Eswatini products at the very least means foreign currency coming into the Swazi economy so that imports can be paid for - but for the women working at Eswatini your purchase means so much more.
