BROKEN LID. CONTENTS EXPOSED TO AIR. Maltodextrin in 2.5kg tub. Maltodextrin is produced from wheat starch - however it contains very very low amounts of gluten. It is a carbohydrate with high glycemic index which means it is a fast way to replenish glycogen for athletes and is generally considered a better way to replenish energy stores than glucose sugar.

  • It is one of the most commonly used ingredients in the food industry, where it is mainly used as a bulking agent or flavour carrier. It can be used to increase volumes of dry mixes.

  • Thickening:
  • It can be added to almost any liquid (hot or cold) as an easy way to thicken - it doesn't make foods lumpy like corn starch.

  • Lock in Flavours to Oils:
  • Maltodextrin has the useful ability to absorb fats and turn them into a paste - or into a dry powder that contains a high proportion of oil. So you can add flavouring to vegetable oils and create flavoured dry powders for dusting, flavoured crumbs, flavoured paste or even make a flavoured 'pastry'.

  • Dispersal Agent:
  • If added to dry ingredients it will bond with them which means you can use it to prevent ingredients which quickly absorb water from going lumpy when added to a liquid.

  • Sugar Replacement:
  • Maltodextrin is a carbohydrate like sugar but it is not sweet. Therefore it can be used to replace sugar as a functional ingredient where not sweetness is not required.
